Over 180 butterfly species can be found in the Tai Po Fung Yuen area of the New Territories, Hong Kong. When Tom and I visited the reserve we saw about twenty different species. Volunteers and staff of the butterfly reserve work in partnership with local farmers to preserve the environmental conditions, which makes the area favourable to butterfly breeding.
We spent a Sunday afternoon with our very informative guide, George. He could name all the amazing butterfly species that fluttered around us and was very patient as we took pictures of everything that moved.
White Dragontail (A portion of its wings are transparent. It is a protected species in HK)

Paris Peacock

Tawny Rajah (This species drinks the sap from this tree)

Common Tiger
Ceylon Blue Glassy Tiger
And all of these colourful creatures begin as a funky critter like this one.
