On Saturday evening a typhoon was making its angry way towards Hong Kong. Our community is perched on a steep hill so the streets turned into waterfalls as the typhoon approached and people scurried around with anything to keep them dry above their heads. By mid-night the rain and wind spun past us and we woke to a beautiful clear morning. The most clear I've seen in a long time. From our living room window we could easily see across Victoria Harbour to Kowloon. So, my birthday wish came true - to go hiking on my birthday.

Tom and I hiked the Dragon Back, which is a trail on the east side of Hong Kong Island. There are wonderful views of Shek O Beach, as seen above, Big Wave Beach and other inlets and villages along the way.
Sprinkled on the path we founds these brilliant red seeds. I love the contrast of red among the shades of brown.

The rain from the typhoon filled the small creeks and feed the waterfalls. Tom and I soaked our feet in a deep pool beside this little waterfall. It was so refreshing!

After our hike we enjoyed a meal at a bustling Indian restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. I also had a very nice chat with this mama lion (you can see her baby under her paw) who watches over the Peninsula Hotel.

Not only did we have clear views during the day but the city scape in the evening was fantastic.

We ended the day with beer, ice cream and a ride on the Star Ferry that took us back across the harbour towards home.
It was a happy birthday indeed!
