The Colours and Flavours of Fall

Things around our house are begining to feel a lot like fall.

As the leaves have started their transformation from bright yellow to deep red and everything in between our street is singing the vibrance of the season.

The Kitchener Market is bountiful right now with the splendid variety of harvests that the growing season has given us. I love wandering through the bustling crowds to find just the right produce for the week. As we roll further away from summer and deeper into fall the market space makes it very evident what food is in season. These beautiful Ontario grown grapes are plentiful right now. I couldn't leave the market on Saturday without a jug of apple cider either. A mug of warm cider says fall to me.

It's so satisfactory to see deep purple jars of plum jam sealed tight and to know of the goodness that they will bring to our paletes in the coming year.

On a fall walk one never knows what treasures one will find. These orange lanterns make my imagination go wild. I picture little fairies using them to light their flight through cool autumn evenings.

Fall is the time of pickling and so pickle was what Tanya and I did. With a dozen jars of spicy dill pickles in the basement the thought of cold winter nights doesn't seem so bad. These pickles will warm me from inside out. But before I start thinking about the wonders of winter I'm going to keep taking in the joys of fall.

Thanks for the note Anne Marie! I have no idea where our friend Anita came up with this test or why you use a spoon or fork. I just thought it sounded like fun to try - we'll see if it's true or not. Hope you and Tom are well and enjoying life in Kitchener. :)
